Pastry Shops in Rome, Italy
Pompi is the standard for all tiramisu in Rome. Romans flock in droves, sometimes triple parking, to order and eat this divinely exquisite dessert. Pompi is a pastry shop and bar located in the neighbourhood of San Giovanni easily reached by taking the underground to Re di Roma. There is usual a hive of activity in this large and modern pastry shop which is packed with people, some spilling on to the sidewalks on narrow tables even at 1am.
Not to worry there is a spacious and modern seating area to the rear of the shop. The myriad of choices in pastries are astounding and sometimes confusing. From the diabetic inducing Mont Blanc to the chocolate lovers' dream Sacher. For those who prefer bite sized desserts there are profiteroles, marzipan in the shape of adorable fruits and cookies even Cookie Monster has never imagined.
Did we mention there was also gelato? This creamy, smooth gelato in a variety flavors is served in a large glass cup filled with fruits, syrups and biscuits which never manage to overpower the simple flavors of the ingredients. If lunch happens to be approaching why not choose one of their quick and cheap gastronomic delights of pastas or meats. The English version of their website was still not available when we last checked but you can still see the wonderful products they offer:
