Enoteca in Rome, Italy
Cul de Sac is one of the more popular enoteche in Rome due to its convenient location, wide selection of wine and cheap prices. A quick poll around the office revealed that this enoteca was amongst the first that everyone tried when they arrived in Rome. Evidently all of us shared the same apprehensions in trying an eatery so close to Piazza Navona, but to this day none of us have remained disappointed.
The best time to go we can attest is during the week when it is less crowded and less chance you will have to wait in a line. The most prized tables are of course those outside in Piazza Pasquino, but inside, the charming trattoria style decor makes you feel relaxed in this family run establishment. The enoteca boasts over 1500 bottles of wine, spumante, liqueurs and other types of alcohol. The choices available on the menu clearly show a love in sharing classic Roman recipes with the world. We recommend trying 'coda alla vaccinara' if you're looking for a heavier meal or the 'caprino caldo' which is slightly warmed goats cheese if you're looking for something lighter.
Service is of course quicker during the week, so be prepared to wait a bit longer between courses on the weekends. We didn't feel the wait at all since there was an ample supply of red wine and hefty portions of appetizers at our table. The prices are some of the best in the center of Rome and Cul de Sac is a definite must for those on a budget looking for quality food.
