Cultural Events in Rome, Italy
Following on the heels of exhibitions of other great Venetian masters, the Lorenzo Lotto exhibit features the acclaimed works of one of the most influential Renaissance artists. The exhibition through its series of carefully chosen pieces, seeks to take the spectator, expert or novice, through the evolutionary phases of a nomadic painter, and the impact each location had on his artistic development.
To further enhance the public's understanding of the themes displayed, colors used and the historical context of his works, there will be a four part series itinerary with local art historian Anna Maria Panzera who will personally explain selected portraits and altarpieces by Lotto.

Four part series:
Friday 11th March at 19.00
San Bernardino Altarpiece, 1521 Bergamo
Reminiscent of the evocations of Giambellino and Giorgione, Lotto sets the young Virgin's throne in the open air. A scene free of architectonic structures, where the fluent dialogue of the subjects accompanies the soft spread of the colours.
Friday 8th April at 19.00
Triple Portrait of a Goldsmith, 1530 Vienna
The tradition of mirror painting, in a triple portrait charged with hidden meanings. A story of friendship and a cultural dispute, a pictorial rebus of unprecedented compositional solution.
Friday 13th May at 19.00
Portrait of a Young Gentleman, 1530 Venice
Black, the colour of secret love. Green lizard, symbol of the lover's coldness. Closed letters and flower petals. One of the most famous images of melancholy. Some say that Lotto invented modern psychology.
Friday 10th June at 19.00
Annunciation, 1534-35 Recanati
An original way of approaching this sacred theme. The Annunciation is first and foremost the entrance of an intruder, albeit a holy one, as may be seen from the flight of a bristling cat and the amazed face of a woman caught in the intimacy of her own home, distracted from absorption in her reading.
