Pizza in Rome, Italy
Bir&Fud pronounced 'beer and food' is a popular pizzeria in the heart of Trastevere. As the name suggests the restaurant specializes in beer. Not just selling it, but producing its own custom flavors of beer.
The fermentation of different malts and the blends of various fruits, spices and other ingredients creates unique tastes and aromas. When we went, we were a bit discouraged at first by the substantial amount of time we were told we would have to wait. However, this changed when we sat by the bar and started ordering walnut flavored beer, beer infused with ginger and we vaguely remembering ordering one with chocolate. The potato wedges came piping hot, lightly dusted in salt and were the perfect bar snack with our ale.
The pizzeria itself can get extremely hot and crowded. We were there in the middle of winter and we ended up literally undressing at the table. We can guarantee that the food is beyond delicious. With a vast array of choices on the menu besides just pizza. Fried delicacies include our favorites, stuffed zucchini flowers with anchovies and codfish.
Prices are extremely reasonable and the portions are large. Service is quick, once you are seated and the waiters are very attentive to the numerous patrons who frequent the locale. We would definitely reserve in advance to avoid the long wait.
