Restaurants in Rome, Italy
We stumbled across this hidden treasure one lovely spring afternoon. As we are skeptical of eating at restaurants close to major monuments in Rome, we made sure we were a bit off the beaten path before searching for a place to eat. L'Angoletto located in a small corner of Piazza Rondanini, beckoned to us because of the wonderful aroma of freshly grilled fish, the numerous Romans who were eating there and the charming outside mezzanine bustling with waiters. It doesn't get more Italian than this.
The menu has so many options that vegetarians, meat lovers, fish lovers, pasta connoisseurs and everyone in between is sure to find at least two dishes to satisfy the palette. Our appetizer of fried 'moscardini' was brought piping hot to the table, crispy and full of Mediterranean flavor. Our second choice of risotto with squid ink garnished with parsley, was unbelievably delicious. The texture of the risotto was perfectly al dente, with no clumps or hard uncooked pieces of rice and the delicate flavor of the squid was accented by the fresh parsley. The wine choices are as varied as the menu and the fruity, light Biancolella was a suitable complement.
The service was a tad bit slow, maybe it was because the restaurant was literally overflowing with Italian families, but the waiters were cordial and extremely apologetic about the time we had to wait. The food is moderately priced and we spent about 45 Euro per person including water, wine and service charge. We found this price was exceptionally good for a restaurant in the center, close to the Pantheon, serving fresh fish.
We highly recommend trying L'Angoletto, a perfect choice for a lazy lunch or romantic summer dinner.
