MAXXI

Cultural Events in Rome, Italy

MAXXI

The city of Rome has the distinct pleasure of hosting some of the most notable museums in Italy, and the recent opening of MAXXI - National Museum of XXI Arts is no exception. Created principally to promote 21st century art, the MAXXI is actually two distinct museums - MAXXI art and MAXXI architecture, which share resources and spaces in one building.

MAXXI art focuses on the evolution of 21st century art and as such concentrates on presenting the works of artists not just through mainstream exhibitions but also through concerts, dance performances, film and video presentations and other media.

MAXXI architecture which is the only national architectural museum in Italy, aims to thoroughly explore the responses to present day questions by interpreting the exceptions of today’s’ society. The museum itself is an architectural wonder, the brain child of respected international architect Zaha Hadid.
