Pizza in Rome, Italy
We cannot express enough our love for this bustling and rustic pizza place in the heart of the historic centre. Obviously we arent alone in our sentiments as there is almost always a line of patrons on the outside waiting to get in. This restaurant is as unpretentious as they come with quick, down to earth service, quality food and unbeatable prices. Seriously, we haven't found another place which has this winning combination in the notoriously tourist trap centre of the city.
Because we at Adorerome.com absolutely hate, detest and abhor lines for food, the best time to go it would appear is around 7:30 or 8pm. Trust us, here you will never be eating by yourself as it fills up quickly but empties at a slower rate. We have seen tables of 10, 4, 2 and even one person served with same efficiency and fervour and attention to quality. The menu consists of your piping hot bite sized appetizers of fried stuffed olives, fried mozzarella and zucchini flowers, first courses of pasta - fettucine with mushrooms, bucatini all'amatriciana or rigatoni alla carbonara, second courses of meats - steaks and chicken and of course their world famous pizza.
Now, Roman pizza is different from the ideal version of pizza which is that from Naples. The crust of Roman pizza is thinner and crispier which our Senior Editor definitely prefers. Toppings are grouped into categories and we still haven't worked up the courage to order pineapples on our pizza which is a 'no-no' in Italy. There are pizza toppings to satisfy everyone: the fish lover, meat lover, cheese lover and vegetarian and the sizzling pizza is delivered with great 'gusto' straight from the wooden oven. Even on a down night, the windows are steamed up from the outside due to the number of patrons inside, the continual frenzy of waiters and the continual chatter of both patrons and waiters makes this one of the most unforgettable experiences you could have dining in Rome.
This restaurant is not for the unsure or timid diner. The personnel are true Romans who delight more in bringing you your meal in the least time possible and satisfying your tastebuds rather than fancy small talk and mundane pleasantries. If we could put two approved signs we would, everyone must try Monte Carlo at least once before they leave Rome.
