Restaurants in Rome, Italy
Hidden in a small alley, near to the Italian parliament, enhances the mystery and charm of this quaint trattoria. Trattoria dal Cavalier Gino is a popular restaurant, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Roman streets. With no pretentious facade, menus still written in chalk on the outside and very few tables, da Gino is one place you must try before you leave the Eternal City.
Stepping through the doors of this rustic restaurant, takes you back to an era when the quality and taste of food was more important than whimsical presentations, scarce portions and exotic ingredients. What has made this restaurant a favorite amongst the locals are the authentic Roman dishes, the quick service and best of all the low prices. Need we say more?
Of course we couldn't let this trattoria win our stamp of approval without trying two typically Roman dishes - La Carbonara and L'Amatriciana. The 'carbonara' was perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of fresh black pepper and the consistency was just the way we like it - not too wet and not too dry. The pecorino cheese with its robust flavor did not overpower the taste of the 'gaunciale', instead enhancing and uniting all the flavors. L'Amatriciana which we had with 'bucatini' straddled the line between tangy and sweet, and the flavor of the sauce was actually engrained in the pasta itself.
Prices as we said before are extremely low and each individual can eat for well below €65 including a bottle of wine. Service is quick as few tables means the turn over is rather swift. The waiters have perfected the art of not making patrons feel hurried, with each waiter interested in feedback from customers on the taste of the dishes. With all this being said, reservations are absolutely necessary.
