Cocktail Bars in Rome, Italy
We happened upon this bar one Friday evening on our way to Piazza Navona. Obika is a trendy bar with ample outdoor seating, situated in a quiet square. It could have been the smiling customers or the neon lit scooter outside which drew our attention, but more than likely it was the 10 Euro price with buffet included which reeled us in.
You may have to wait a while for some free seats, so it would be better to visit Obika earlier in the night. The staff was courteous and professional and after placing an order for two 'negroni' and a 'mojito' we headed to the buffet inside.
We were a tad disappointed by the range of food available, which was limited to raw vegetables, mozzarella, bread, two cold pasta salads and a cold rice and vegetable medley. Perhaps we visited too late in the night, but we know of numerous other bars in Rome which offer a wider variety of choices for an aperitivo buffet. The 'negroni' were best described as below par, while the mojito reminded us of a badly mixed lemonade. The atmosphere of the bar is extremely relaxing, especially for those who prefer to be away from the maddening crowds found in the larger squares. We would give Obika a second chance but we definitely wouldn't recommend this bar to first time visitors to Rome.
