Transportation in Rome, Italy
The underground/subway system in Rome, simply known as the 'Metro' has only two lines. This is due in part to difficulties associated with digging - archeological treasures of ancient Rome are constantly being found; and the notoriously slow beauracratic process in Italy. The two lines, aptly named Line A and B, service the West - South East and East - South West parts of the city respectively.
Line B always with blue 'M' signs, has the older trains which can become unbearably hot and crowded in the summer months due to lack of air conditioning and the sheer volume of tourists. The stops of interests on Line B for tourists are:
Tiburtina - second largest train station in Rome for both local and regional trains. Trains from Naples, Milan and other parts of Italy may use this as the point of entry into Rome. Bus depot for local buses as well as buses to other parts of Italy.
Termini - mecca hub of buses, local and regional trains and both underground lines. The largest train station in Rome, you will find trains to all parts of Italy and some international
ones. The train Leonardo Express which goes to Fiumicino Airport is found here also.

Circo Massimo - Circus Maximus, Food and Agricultural Organization headquarters (FAO), Bocca della Verita

Useful Tips
You do not need to exit the station at Termini to switch from Line A to B or vice versa. Take your time and follow the signs.
Keep your stamped ticket for the duration of your voyage. Ticket controllers may be present at the exit turnstiles of stations.
Ticket controllers do not control tickets during your journeys on trains. It is not necessary to show tickets, I.D cards or your personal possessions to anyone during your voyage.
Do not put important items in easy to reach pockets and hand bags should be kept close to your body.
If people are blocking the door as you try to exit simply say 'Permesso'.
When you hear the alarm and see the doors closing do not try to squeeze through. Nothing prevents the doors from closing except the controller and many people have been painfully caught in the middle.
