Villa d'Este

Tour Rome in 1 Week

Located nearby to Villa Adriana it was commissioned in the 16th century by Cardinal Ippolito II d'Este who brought certain statues from Villa Adriana which was already in an early state of decay. His dream was to recreate the splendor of royal courts present in Ferrara and Rome and in so doing revive the splendor of Villa Adriana. The garden which itself is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites, is a fusion of water and rock, a perfect symbiosis between the natural and artificial. In fact the garden went on to become a much copied model for European gardens. Both sites should be seen during your time in Tivoli.

For lunch especially Sunday, there is Hotel Adriano which offers a complete Italian lunch at a ridiculously low price. The restaurant is extremely spacious and Sunday lunch is buffet style. We can attest that a few of us had to unbutton our suddenly restrictive pants. Book before leaving Rome to ensure that you are not disappointed, as the restaurant was bursting with tourists and Italians alike.
