Cultural Events in Rome, Italy
We had the opportunity this past Easter to visit Villa D'Este in the town of Tivoli, just outside of Rome. We had visited Hadrian's Villa last year and were completely enamored by the well preserved structures, such as the pool and the grotto. With great expectations we went to see the wonders of Villa D'Este a 16th century villa, and we were not in the least bit disappointed.
The gardens themselves are more famous than the villa, but its worth the time to explore the individually themed rooms on the estate. The gardens are a veritable water and marble oasis, whose layout became the standard for European gardens for nearly 200 years. The abundance of marble used to construct the structures found in the garden, was taken from the nearby villa of Emperor Hadrian, while the continuous flow of water is testament to the skill of Roman engineers.
We won't go into all the historic details of the site, as these are readily available online. What we will tell you however is that if you have more than 7 days in the Eternal City its worth the trip to see these spectacular gardens.
