Antica Enoteca

Enoteca in Rome, Italy

Antica Enoteca

This no frills wine bar comes highly recommended by travelers using TripAdvisor.com. It is sometimes difficult to find places in the center, which offer excellent selections of fine wines and good food at low prices.  What interested us the most to share the information with you, is the ambience and authenticity of the product they promote.

Antica Enoteca established in 1842, has for many years been a favorite with locals in the area especially during the era of 'La Dolce Vita'. It became popular with many artists who made the nearby Via Margutta their home during this period. The enoteca retains many of the original fittings, these having been incorporated in the restored interior architecture. The long, curved wooden and brass bar is the central feature of this enoteca, allowing patrons to order their wines by the glass if they desire while sampling traditional Roman delicacies from the cold buffet. If you would like to maximize your experience in this authentic setting, a trattoria-style restaurant serves up Italian favorites like polenta with sausages, eggplant parmesan and other dishes.

Above all this is an enoteca and therefore we scoured their wine lists to see if they met the criteria. They exceeded our expectations by having the usual high quality wines like Barbaresco, Amarone, Verdicchio, Fiano di Avellino, but our hard to find favorites like the lighter Nobile di Montepulciano and the full bodied Barolo.
